The Bacon Web Sensation

Salon.com has an article about Bacon Mania in the US, but it's all web based. Bacon is everywhere. They didn't mention any Bacon website, but they did mention many many bacon product that you can find. Such as a bacon ring. They also had bacon toilet paper. Bacon is spreading.

Enjoy,

Quick question, Alexa. One of our readers (living temporarily in Aussieland) said there was no real bacon to be found in Australia. Is that true? Do you know where it can be found?

Sadly this is true for the most part. I have yet to see "real" streaky bacon here, to me it resembles more canadian bacon (with extra salt) and a strange dangly bit, but I've been told passionately by Aussies that this is much better bacon then the bacon we have in the states. I've started to come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to make my own bacon, and http://www.sbs.com.au/blog/108254/Paddock-to-Plate has some great hints. Also what area of Oz are they in? The paddock to plate people have given some good suggestions as to where to find some English style streaky bacon in the Melbourne area. I'm up a bit north from Sydney, but I'll ask around again to see if anyone knows where to find (US) bacon here. The one thing I have to say is that our rectangular bacon is much easier to wrap things with and make into more interesting designs. :) I hope this helps.

Wow, rectangular bacon. I'm totally intrigued. You should also check Dave's Cupboard (http://davescupboard.blogspot.com/2008/04/making-bacon-at-home.html) for bacon making tips. There are two or three entries on his site and he seems to really know his stuff. Thanks for the tips, I'll pass them on!

How much do you love Bacon?

Are you going to celebrate Bacon Day 2009?
