No Name Premium Meats Bacon

No Name Premium Meats, according to twincities.com, gave Conan O'Brien the gift of chocolate bacon:
On Tuesday, "The Tonight Show" received the bust — made of white chocolate with bacon for hair — and O'Brien did a segment with it Wednesday.
This would be so awesome to see. I've seen the butter sculptures at the MN state fair, and I've seen them being carved, it's really very cool. I couldn't easily find a photo, but I found this.

Rocco does it again

Rocco from Bacon Freak has done it again. He now is selling bacon covered chocolate. They almost look like turtles, or chocolate covered nut clusters. Hmmm I think I might have a new idea for a desert there. Also a heads up that the bacon boys have finally made a cold smoker and are working on their first batch of bacon. Okay two batches, they are doing a cure and a brine I believe, so we'll have updates on that soon as well.

Bacon Chocolate ... Burger?

The Star News Online has now reported on a chocolate bacon burger. Now I was willing to try the chocolate covered bacon, but this might be a step too far.

At serious eats they state that

The people behind Epic Nomz wanted to "create a hamburger of such decadent and epic proportion that it would literally make women weep, men question their faith in God, and angels leap out of the clouds and sing."

Now if anyone out there has tried this, let me know, because it does sound just a bit wacky... then again who am I to talk.

Bacon (white) Chocolate

I've made it, it was amazing, and I have a few tips. Tip 1 Since I bought plain bacon, I seasoned it with pepper (and one with black pepper and cayenne pepper as well), as we all know, and if you don't you should try this, bacon and pepper are delicious and chocolate and pepper are amazing. Tip 2 I found that a slice of apple went extremely well on the circle bit of the bacon. Tip 3 Make sure the bacon doesn't have any liquid grease, or the chocolate will have a harder time to stay on the bacon. Tip 4 use crispy bacon because soggy bacon with the chocolate just seems weird and the chocolate seems soggy then and that's just not good in my opinion. Tip 5 the last tip, don't eat too many, between the sugar in the chocolate and bacon, well lets just say that I had too many and didn't want to eat anything for the rest of the day.

Bacon Chocolate and Ninjas

I finally made some chocolate covered bacon and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. I have photos, but they will come tomorrow since I forgot them at home. I will post the recipe that I used and the photos together tomorrow, if you can't tell I'm very excited about this.

On another note, there maybe a computer game in the future with a bacon ninja. I found this interview on Indie Blend with Craig Forrester who is the creator of Johnny Platform's Biscuit Romp.

I can definitely say my next game won't have any box pushing in as I've had enough of coding that for a while. I'm currently trying to fit in another XNA 2D Platformer based on a character that Tom came up with during our Christmas dinner, Bacon Ninja! Tom's design is still in the early stages but looks fantastic so far.

I know Lords of Bacon reported a while ago about bacon in the world of war craft, but a game with a bacon ninja, I might just have to get an X box to see it.

Happy V - Day

Happy valentines day all out there (okay so it's almost done here in Oz, but you guys in the states are just a few hours away). Are you still wondering what to get that special some one? Well those near Boulder should get the Bacon Cupcakes from Tee and cakes, a nice relaxing morning to go with your sweetie (or savory) and pick up some cupcakes. For the rest of us not in the Boulder area, Rocco from Bacon Freak has a number of bacon packages out there, but that might take a bit longer then you have for V-Day. You could just make a wonderful diner, a new favorite recipe of mine is from Jamie Oliver with white fish and bacon, I couldn't find it online, but I found this one instead which looks just as good. If you wanted to try to stick with something traditional, you could make some chocolate covered bacon, which is what I plan to do tomorrow after all the chocolate is on sale (I am a poor grad student, it's lucky this whole blog isn't about ramen with bacon bits).

If you try any or all of these v-day suggestions let us know how it went, and what the other party thought.

Good Luck and Enjoy,

Austrian Candy Bacon

If you happen to be in southern Austria here is a new place to get your candy bacon, or chocolate by itself if you must. From France 24
What sets Zotter's chocolate apart are the fillings which range from the traditional -- caramel, apricot and poppy seed -- to the unusual: alpine cheese with walnut and grape; candied cranberry with porcini mushroom; or plum with caramelised bacon -- a huge hit in Austria.

National Pork Month

I know I'm late with the info, but October is national Pork month. In order to celebrate how about serving bacon on Halloween instead of the normal candy. If you want to serve something that is already packaged, check out these Maple - Bacon Lollipops. Otherwise there are bacon flavored jellie beans in the Harry Potter's Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, or Bacon chocolate bars (or flying pigs from the same company)), and there is always the classic Archie McPhee's Bacon gummies (although they are strawberry flavored).

Are you going to celebrate Bacon Day 2009?
