Jamie Saves Our Bacon

This next Wed. August 5th, Jamie Saves Our bacon will be showing on Ten in Australia. The reviews on line were very good in Britain, so I'm excited to see it here. If you go to Jamie Oliver's website, you can click around the drawing of the pig to find recipes for each cut. Other areas of his site also hold some wonderful recipes for bacon.

Okay so this isn't strictly bacon, but it sounds amazing and why not replace the pancetta with some thinly sliced apple smoked bacon? I think that would taste amazingly. Okay so I know what I want to try this next weekend. Jamie Oliver has some amazing tips and great recipes. Check out his pod cast as well for more ideas.

Happy V - Day

Happy valentines day all out there (okay so it's almost done here in Oz, but you guys in the states are just a few hours away). Are you still wondering what to get that special some one? Well those near Boulder should get the Bacon Cupcakes from Tee and cakes, a nice relaxing morning to go with your sweetie (or savory) and pick up some cupcakes. For the rest of us not in the Boulder area, Rocco from Bacon Freak has a number of bacon packages out there, but that might take a bit longer then you have for V-Day. You could just make a wonderful diner, a new favorite recipe of mine is from Jamie Oliver with white fish and bacon, I couldn't find it online, but I found this one instead which looks just as good. If you wanted to try to stick with something traditional, you could make some chocolate covered bacon, which is what I plan to do tomorrow after all the chocolate is on sale (I am a poor grad student, it's lucky this whole blog isn't about ramen with bacon bits).

Eat more bacon to save jobs in England

Okay so it might help if you are in England and North Yorkshire specifically, A meat processing plant is laying off some employees. Bacon is supposed to be the meat people turn to during recessions.

On the plus side, Jamie Oliver is running a program called Save our Bacon. So maybe the layoffs wont be necessary.

I don't know if any one else out there caught the Jamie Oliver special on healthy eating or on the state of chicken farms (I couldn't watch that one), but now he has another special planed for pork. The Farmers Guardian has a very short article on this possibility.
